Are you interested in learning tips to help with dry erase board cleaning? Keeping whiteboards free from stains can certainly be a challenge if you don't know how to maintain them properly. However, if you get in the habit of cleaning them regularly and using the correct types of markers and cleaning solutions, you can expect them to last for many years.
Dry Erase Board Cleaning Tips
Clean Dry Erase Boards Frequently
If you use dry erase boards at work or home, it's important to clean them regularly if you want them to stay in good condition. You should actually make a point of wiping the text off your dry erase boards with an eraser specifically designed for that type of surface following each use. For example, if you are a teacher, its best erase your class notes at the end of each day. That will keep the boards from staining quickly and ensure that you have a clean surface to work on when you return to work the next day.
Alternately, if you are using dry erase boards to track sales or appointments or other business-related information, or if you're maintaining a weekly grocery list at home, or if you are using them to keep up with some other kind of information on an ongoing basis, you won't be able to erase the text on a daily basis. In this situation, you'll need to set aside a time to clean your boards that makes sense for you, based on how they are being used.
Use the Right Type of Markers
Using the correct type of writing tool is an essential aspect of keeping your write boards in good condition. One of the most common challenges lies with trying to remove writing and marks made with the wrong kind of marker. You should only write on these types of surfaces with pens designed specifically for them.
Too many people make the mistake of using permanent ink or pens designed for use with overhead projectors rather then markers designed specifically for use on dry erase surfaces. Look for pens that are specifically labeled as being made for "Dry Erase" boards. If someone accidentally uses a permanent marker, you may be able to clean off the lettering with fingernail polish remover applied to a cotton ball. Be very careful doing this, however, as the strong acetone can damage the board's surface.
Use an Appropriate Cleaning Solution
To keep your dry erase boards in top shape, you should use a cleaning solution designed specifically for use with this type of surface. Keep in mind that regular maintenance can have a significant impact on how well your boards hold up over time. The frequency with which you wipe your boards clean after regular use will have an impact on how often you need to use a cleaning solution on them.
The longer you leave writing on dry erase boards without cleaning them off, the more likely they will be to stain. If you are able to wipe them clean every day, you won't necessarily have to use a cleaning solution each time. However, if writing stays on your boards for several days (or longer) at a time, you'll likely need to use a solution whenever you wipe them clean in order to get the ink to disappear. Even boards that are cleared several times each week will periodically need to be rubbed down with some type of dry erase board cleaning solution.
As a general rule, it's probably best to use a solution on boards that are used frequently at least one time per month. If you notice, however, that marker stains are starting to show after you erase your boards, that means that means that you need to go ahead and use a solution on the board. Don’t leave faint writing marks showing for a period of time, as these will convert to stains very quickly if they are not cleaned off.
