List of Daily Cleaning Chores
From LoveToKnow Cleaning
Even people with relatively small houses can neglect areas of their homes because they simply forget they haven’t cleaned them, which is why a list of daily cleaning chores can be a huge help. Instead of simply guessing at what needs to be accomplished, people can cross each item off as it’s done. This can help prevent large messes from building up over time, making the job of cleaning easier.
The list of daily cleaning chores does not have to be the same every day, since some things only need to be cleaned periodically, not every 24 hours. People who have never made such a list before may benefit from consulting the example below.
Sample List of Daily Cleaning Chores
- Dishes – Wash the dishes by hand or in the dishwasher, dry them (if needed) and put them away.
- Laundry – Place dirty clothes in the hamper and bring it down to the laundry room. Wash and dry as needed. Fold and put away clean clothes.
- Picking Up – Pick up any items that are on the floor but shouldn’t be, such as toys, papers or clothing.
- Organizing – Organize mail and items on tabletops.
- Surface Cleaning – Wipe down kitchen and bathroom surfaces with a spray cleaner that kills germs. This can be a commercial cleaner, household vinegar or tea tree oil.
- Vacuuming – Vacuum carpets in high traffic areas, especially if a household member has allergies or there are animals that shed living in the home.
- Dust windowsills, bookshelves, lamps and other areas that attract dust or cobwebs quickly.
- Making the bed each morning
Tasks to Include at Least Once a Week
These additional tasks should find their way onto the daily schedule at least once a week:
- Cleaning the kitchen sink and appliances
- Wiping spots off of walls
- Dusting electronics, including ceiling fans
- Removing old food from the refrigerator
- Taking out the garbage and the recycling
- Washing throw rugs
- Shaking out the doormat and sweeping the porch
- Wiping windows and mirrors
- Disinfecting light switches and door handles
- Washing sheets and towels and changing bed linens
- Sweeping areas with tile or wood floors
- Vacuuming less high traffic areas of carpet and furniture upholstery
- Scrubbing bathroom toilets, bathtubs, sinks and showers
- Restocking toilet paper and paper towels in appropriate rooms
Making a Personalized List
While the list above is fairly comprehensive, it may not be perfect for your home. A good way to determine exactly what you need to do is to take a notebook with you and walk through the house, room by room. Write down exactly what you and other household members clean and how often it needs to be done. Rooms such as the attic and garage typically don’t need to be included on a daily list. However, if you are a frequent do it yourselfer who counts on an organized garage, putting the tools in their specific compartments daily may be a necessity.
Note that personalized list does not mean that you have to complete each cleaning task yourself. You can delegate responsibility to other family members or even hire outside help. While most cleaning services will have their own lists of chores, you can provide yours as well so the company knows your exact preferences.

Cleaning lists are also available for download. Before installing such a file on your computer, make sure you have up to date antivirus software. Some websites, unfortunately, are not as trustworthy as others. You can also buy list software at many office supply stores.
