Make Your Own Laminate Floor Cleaner
After all of those warnings, one may think there are no easy options when it comes to cleaning their laminate flooring. Fortunately, that couldn't be further from the truth. It's easy to make your own cleanser, saving you money and a trip to the store. Before beginning any cleaning or homemade cleaning regimen, check with your floor manufacturer's requirements to ensure these ingredients are safe for your particular laminate
You can use:
- White vinegar
- Dish detergent
- Rubbing alcohol
- Baby shampoo
- Lemon juice
Once you have these ingredients, you can make different combinations of cleaners and see what works best on your floor.
White Vinegar Cleaner
Mix 1 cup of the white vinegar or alcohol with 4 cups of hot water. The water must be hot. You can then clean with this formula by slightly dampening a mop with the mixture, or using it in a Swiffer-type mop.
You can also mix together two tablespoons of ammonia with a half cup of alcohol. Add a teaspoon of detergent, add two and a half cups of hot water, and then use it in your ready-to-use mop.
Gentler, Baby Shampoo Cleaner
For a gentler formula, mix two teaspoons of baby shampoo with one gallon of water. Again, the water must be hot. This works well on laminate floors with a standard mop.
Lemon juice can be used in many of these formulations to create a fresher scent with the results.
Buying a Commercial Cleanser
There are several commercial cleaners you can purchase at a reasonable cost that will get the job done effectively. Be sure to read the ingredients carefully to ensure it is meant for laminate flooring. Companies such as Armstrong and Swiffer make some great options.
